Questions

A “Tax and Duty” calculator provides the total landed cost to the buyer (from your eCommerce platform). It clearly provides the shipping fee, taxes and duties for a specific sales order. In general, duties and taxes are determined based on the product type, its value, country of origin and the final country of destination.

Depending on the country, other terms could be used to refer to “tax”. For example, in the EU “tax” is referred to as VAT – Value Added Tax.

The incoterm of the solution is DDP (Delivery Duty Paid).

GEODIS provides two options to calculate Taxes and Duties –

  • Before check-out - In this case the shipping fee, Duties and Taxes are displayed before the buyer completes the transaction.
  • After check-out – If your eCommerce platform does not have the flexibility to display Tax and Duty before checkout.

In both cases, Tax and Duties are to be calculated before the parcel leaves the origin country and the incoterm of the transaction will be DDP.

Questions

GEODIS has an e-Commerce customs solution in the EU and Canada to provide express import clearance.

We maintain a list of prohibited items and restricted goods. Kindly refer the Service Guide for details.

Yes. Kindly refer the Service Guide for details.

The buyer will be the importer of record. As a part of online order completion, the buyer agrees to be the importer of records (IOR). The shipper needs to take adequate care to store data and details noting that the buyer has agreed to be the IOR. Customs at the destination can demand the evidence of the buyer agreeing to be the IOR on the shipper’s eCommerce platform at the time of checkout.

POA stands for Power of Attorney. POA is given by a buyer to the seller at the time of completion of an online cross-border order. The POA empowers the seller to appoint a 3rd party, a customs broker, to act on behalf of the buyer at the destination. If demanded by the customs agencies, the shipper should be able to provide the evidence of providing this POA.

Questions

Yes, this is an end to end service and includes pick-up service.

Yes, this is an all-inclusive service. There could be more fees for additional services and/or accessorial operations, but those fees would be declared in advance at the time of contract signing. For additional details, kindly refer the Service Guide.

The fuel component of the shipping fee is variable and is revised once a month depending on changes in fuel prices as published by the US Department of Energy under the US Gulf Coast Index.

Questions

If a parcel is not accepted by the buyer, GEODIS provides return options depending on the agreed contract with the shipper –

  • A parcel can be replenished locally if the shipper selects this option
  • A parcel can be liquidated in the destination country or region.
  • A parcel can be returned to the shipping location in the US.

Return service is an additional fee based on the contractual rate.

If a buyer wants to return a parcel after accepting it, the shipper needs to initiate the return process and based on business rules, GEODIS can provide the return shipping label. Once the buyer ships the parcel, the return journey will end as per the return options provided in the last section.
