Sustainability, an area that many organizations are looking to implement into their daily operations. Wherever your organization stands with its sustainability journey, it is not too late to make strategic changes to improve and develop sustainable operations; you can start as soon as today. Let's better understand Sustainability, how it impacts the world's Supply Chain, and how GEODIS incorporates it into our strategy and processes.
What is Sustainability?
If you are beginning your journey with Sustainability, it is essential to understand the role it plays in your business and what you can do to improve. Your journey with Sustainability, no matter the scale, does not need to be intimidating, but it is an ongoing process to incorporate into an organization's operations. Sustainability is making changes to current methods that will not leave lasting impacts and alter the future of our environment. For large organizations, they may have a more significant lift to make these changes.
Supply Chain directly impacts the environment through its everyday motions, but there are ways to optimize and challenge the current process to ensure you are measuring and understanding this impact. Adjustments such as measuring emissions, strategies to consolidate or streamline cargo routes, or implement technology to track by shipment are just a few ways to move towards a more sustainable approach. Organizations are taking a closer look at the Air pollutants emissions for their freight transport chains. Many seek ways to reduce these emissions whether their freight volume increases or has a steady shipment flow. Key players in the Logistics industry like GEODIS have set the tone for the rest of the sector to implement ways to track and reduce their emissions. No matter the size of your organization, you can make a change and your impact matters.
What We Are Doing:
GEODIS is committed to finding solutions to improve our environmental impact better. With strategies in place, GEODIS has set an ambitious target to achieve a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. At GEODIS, we are driven to developing strategies to improve and create solutions to incorporate Sustainability. GEODIS has created several initiatives to improve the environmental impact and footprint. As of 2010, GEODIS developed 'The Oxygen Project' with three key areas of improvement: measuring an annual global carbon inventory of all direct and indirect emissions, avoiding and reducing emissions, as well as partnering, and advocating for solutions through developing partnerships that improve the efficiency of transport. GEODIS has also developed an easily accessible 'Emissions Calculator' available here to assess Greenhouse Gases and Pollutants emissions from customers' freight transportation.
